HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas - A stretch of Texas highway has been renamed in honor of a fallen East Texas soldier.
A large crowd gathered Monday to rename a portion of Texas Highway 11 and 49 in Morris County to the "Army Staff Sgt. Samuel T. Castle Memorial Highway."
“When I come through Daingerfield to Hughes Springs and see my nephew there. It just means so much,” said Darrin Terry, Sgt. Castle's uncle.
Terry joined his family to honor his nephew, who was killed in action in Iraq in 2005.
Castle was a 1996 graduate of Hughes Spring High School.
“He had a big personality, a big smile, extremely polite young man, hardworking and a phenomenal athlete,” said Tim Lambert, Sgt. Castle's High School former teacher.
