SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Western Iowa Labor Federation hosted its annual Labor Day picnic Monday, Sept. 1, at Riverside Park in Sioux City.

This event, which was open to the public, marks the 122nd year of the picnic. Organizers say it serves as a “thank you” to Iowa workers who work so hard for the state every day.

Jennifer Pellant, Western Iowa Labor Federation’s president, said, just as Labor Day is a celebration for everyone, the work unions do benefits everyone.

“When unions are present in your community,” said Pellant. “Wages go up for everyone, and quality of life gets better for everyone. Benefits get better for everyone because other companies have to compete with union wages and union benefits. The basics of it all is what we create is for everybody.”
