MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WNDU) - All Irish fans had their eyes on new starting quarterback CJ Carr during Notre Dame’s season-opening loss to Miami on Sunday night .

The biggest question heading into this matchup was how the redshirt freshman would handle his first ever collegiate start.

Overall, he made an impressive debut despite experiencing the typical ups and downs that come with a first start.

Carr completed 19 of 30 passes, throwing for two touchdowns and adding another on the ground. He also had an interception on a thrice-deflected pass that bounced off a defender’s foot .

The Irish fought hard to stay in the game and Carr looked comfortable throughout, absorbing some big hits and owning up to his mistakes along the way.
