MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) Mount Pleasant leaders are considering amending their leash ordinance to allow dogs to go off leash at certain places during certain hours of the day.

Right now, Mount Pleasant's ordinance says dogs must be on leash in public places. Mount Pleasant's Health Recreation and Events committee meets Tuesday and will discuss bringing the idea to council.

Councilmembers say they would look at neighboring towns such as Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island and Charleston as an example for when and where to allow dogs off leash.

Residents had mixed reactions. Some supported the idea if owners trained their dogs to handle playing off leash.
