Jaren Kanak responds after fumble

All offseason, Jaren Kanak grinded in the film room and on the Jugs machines to make the most of his move from linebacker to tight end.

His effort and performance in the preseason were rewarded by Oklahoma naming him its starting tight end going into its season opener Saturday night versus Illinois State.

He recorded his first collegiate catch on OU’s first drive, and had a nice second on the Sooners’ second possession, before he fumbled the ball away.

But Kanak didn’t fold after the early mistake. He came back to finish the game with five catches for 90 yards, and a 48-yard catch and run that was OU’s longest play from scrimmage in the 35-3 victory.

“It was a great response,” head coach Brent Venables said
