FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — The Stephenson County Antique Engine Club held a Labor Day celebration in Freeport, offering visitors a chance to experience historical vehicles and a vintage steam locomotive ride.
The event featured several period cars and trucks displayed at the Silver Creek Museum, providing a glimpse into the past for attendees. A highlight of the celebration was the opportunity for visitors to ride a 1912 Heisler steam locomotive, which currently operates on a wood fire.
"One having a lot of fun and 2 just getting a realization for what built America how we used to operate and maybe spark an interest in history," said John Mennenga, a volunteer at the event. "We're here preserving what ran in America we're preserving railroad history railroads are what built America and we w
