AUBURN — Hugh Freeze and his Auburn football staff took significant strides in recent months to improve the program's recruiting outlook for the 2026 cycle, but on Monday, what was a 13-commit class took a significant blow.
Edge rusher Hezekiah Harris, a consensus blue-chip prospect and top-150 player, backed off his commitment to the Tigers and flipped his pledge to Tennessee. A Jemison native, Harris had been committed to Auburn since July 2024, and his departure means the Tigers have lost their third-highest-rated commit in the class, based on 247Sports' composite ratings.
It meant a steep drop in the recruiting rankings for Auburn, which went from 35th to 51st nationally with the change. The Tigers also dropped two spots within the SEC, going from No. 12 to No. 14.
