COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina lawmakers are considering legislation to repurpose vacant and unused school buildings across the state, saying the properties could help drive economic development and provide new services in rural areas.
At a recent committee meeting, lawmakers discussed paving a path for these properties to be transformed.
Many districts own old school buildings that have sat empty for years. The proposal would require districts to report all unused properties, giving the state a comprehensive list.
