MACON, Ga. — As the country observed Labor Day on Monday, celebrating the contributions and achievements of American workers, a Central Georgia labor union marked the occasion by honoring its members and reflecting on significant growth in recent years.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local chapter gathered to thank its members for their dedication to the trade, highlighting personal stories and the union's expanding influence in the region.

Among those celebrated was Marsha Selby, whose journey into the construction industry began as what seemed an impossible dream in the 1970s.

"I've always tinkered with my hands and when I wanted to do construction in the 70s, they told me I was a girl and I can't do it," Selby said.
