TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Small businesses in Tucson and across the nation are facing new financial challenges as the De Minimis exemption is no longer in place. This policy change means items valued under $800 sent from overseas will now incur a tariff.

Lizzie Mead, owner of Silver Sea Jewelry on Fourth Avenue, says she's watching the impact closely.

"I'm definitely concerned," Mead said.

Mead explained that the removal of the exemption will affect her operations sooner rather than later.

"If we're doing something and we need a little thing to make that happen - it would fall under De Minimis," Mead said. "The new price point - they're not going to want to pay. They'll just get it from overseas directly themselves."
