AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - On this edition of Hearts, Hope & Home, families come in all sorts of combinations, adoption, fostering or kinship.
Kinship families occur when a child is taken from a home but placed with a close relative, family friends, a valued teacher, or someone in the child’s life who is able to provide an added level of normalcy to an already traumatic situation.
“The kinship means that they’re either a relative or a friend of the family, that they know they have a relationship with them. But we find for the children when they’re removed, it’s less stressful for them if they go to where they know the people that are there,” said Mary Zahller, kinship specialist with Saint Francis Ministries.
