ATLANTA — Virginia Tech linebacker Caleb Woodson didn’t start Sunday afternoon’s game against No. 13 South Carolina. He ended up playing most of the snaps at Mike linebacker for the rest of the game.

Woodson did not play the first defensive series as part of his public punishment for being charged with a misdemeanor DWI on Aug. 23. It was Woodson’s second misdemeanor driving charge in less than one month.

“There are certainly internal measures we have taken besides stripping him from being a captain and not starting him tonight,” Hokies coach Brent Pry said, “but we’re going to let the university policy, the athletic department’s policy, the court system, we’re going to let that play out so there may be things down the road that are necessary, some other measures.”
