ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Crews responded to a fire at a Stonecrest home caused by an apparent grill malfunction late Monday afternoon.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue said the occupants of a house on Chaparral Drive were having a cookout on the patio when the grill malfunctioned, sparking the fire.

The flames spread to the roof of the home, where there’s now a gaping hole.

The four adults and one dog in the home escaped without injuries, fire officials said.

A neighbor told Atlanta News First that he heard an explosion before he saw the flames.
