CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Carolinas are among the lowest ranked states when it comes to the number of workers that are members of labor unions, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In North Carolina, the union membership rate is estimated to be around 2.4%.

Of the more than 4.5 million employed paid workers that the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates North Carolina has -- it said 108,000 of those workers are union members.

Jeremy Sprinkle is with the North Carolina State AFL-CIO, which is a federation of unions across the state.

“Indeed [there are] over 100,000 union members who go to work every day trying to earn respect for their hard work,” Sprinkle said.
