"That's what Jack would want me to do"- Otsego mother turning grief into nonprofit honoring son and grandmother

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The call every parent dreads came in the early morning hours of May 24.

Julie Russian’s son, 18-year-old Otsego High School graduate Jack Rowland, and fellow graduate Brayden Sadler died in an ATV crash just two days after graduation.

Ohio State Highway Patrol report stated that alcohol was suspected to play a part in the incident and neither were wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

“I just remember screaming and crying and I just kept saying I need you to stay on the phone. I need you to stay on the phone, and then I just kept screaming, no, no, no, no,” Russian said.

“It’s not something any mother should have to go through or wants to go through,” she added.

Months after the crash, Russian said she is finding a way to turn her grief into purpose. S
