The Homer volleyball team took fourth place in the Gold Bracket at the North/South in Houston on Saturday.

Pool play was used to seed brackets. In the Gold Bracket, Homer was the No. 3 seed and Seward was the No. 5 seed. There were 12 teams at the tournament.

The Mariners defeated Houston before losing to Valdez, defeating Seward, then losing to Mountain City Christian Academy. Valdez would go on to win the tourney.

Seward lost to Barrow, then Homer.

Homer head coach Brenna Dornellas wrote in a text message that her squad, in its first outing of the season, had a great showing and worked hard.

Homer outside hitters Reilly Sue Baker and Swift Blackstock made the all-tournament team.

“Both showed some heart and am excited to see their game play this season,” Dornellas wrote.
