The city of Toledo does not have a jail. Lucas County operates the Lucas County Corrections Center where all people arrested in Lucas County are booked in for all cities and municipalities, about 22,000 per year.

The Lucas County Corrections Center is under a federal court order, Jones vs. Wittenberg, that is over 40 years old. This is the only jail in Ohio in which there are no sentenced county inmates. Inmates sentenced to up to a year are transported to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio regional jail in Stryker, with Lucas County a paying member along with Williams, Fulton, Henry, and Defiance counties.
