HOUSTON, Texas — An 11-year-old boy died after he was shot in the back while running from a residence during a “ding-dong-ditch” prank, reports say.
KTRK Channel 13 reports that police say the shooting occurred just after 11 p.m. Saturday. The boy was taken to a hospital after he was shot and he died Sunday.
“Officers were told the male was ringing doorbells of homes in the area and running away. A witness stated the male was running from a house, after ringing the doorbell, just prior to suffering a gunshot wound,” police tell ABC News .
A suspect in the shooting was taken into custody but was later released, but again was detained after the boy died, ABC News reports. Police say the suspect has not been formally charged.
