CHAPEL HILL — Bill Belichick is known as a defensive mastermind, but UNC football had a disastrous start defensively in Belichick's debut as a college coach.
Belichick's Tar Heels set the wrong kind of records in their 48-14 loss to TCU at Kenan Stadium, allowing a program-worst mark in points to open a season and the most points allowed by a Belichick-coached team.
"We played competitively and then couldn't sustain it. Obviously, we have a lot of work to do. We need to do a better job all the way around — coaching, playing. All three phases of the game just wasn't up to what it needs to be," Belichick said after his debut.
"I know we're a lot better than that, so we need to work on those things and show it on Saturday (against Charlotte) with a quick turnaround. Give TCU credit. T
