Plans for 51 retirement apartments on land off Radford Road have been turned down because of problems with the access to the site. McCarthy Stone had hoped to build the one and two-bed flats on a car park at the rear of Otterbrook Court – an existing retirement complex – alongside a scout hut and near to a bingo hall.

The scheme would also have incorporated 27 parking spaces – the existing car park has 150 – buggy and bin store, amenity space in the form of a homeowner’s lounge and a communal garden. Plans showed that some of the ground floor units would also have had small private patio areas.

But the proposed scheme prompted a flurry of objections, with 90 neighbours and a councillor contacting Coventry City Council , raising concerns about the lack of parking. They also posed questi
