(FOX40.COM) — One person is dead following an early morning shooting in West Sacramento, the local police department said.

According to the West Sacramento Police Department, the shooting occurred around 1 a.m. near the 1400 block of West Capitol Avenue.

Responding officers found a person who had been shot and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The police department said it does not believe the fatal shooting was connected to a second shooting that occurred roughly two and a half hours later near Kinsington Street and Essex Avenue. The victim in the second shooting was injured and is in stable condition.

Police said no further details were being released about either shooting "in order to protect the integrity of the investigations."
