YORK, Maine — Colwen Hotels has purchased the York Beach Surf Club after an initial deal with the family who opened the hotel fell through.

The Perkins family initially had a purchase and sale agreement to buy back the Long Sands Beach hotel after an LLC owned by Lynwood Perkins had the highest bid of $6.85 million at its June 20 auction. That deal fell through, according to auctioneer Stef Keenan, leaving the property to the second-highest bidder in Colwen, which bid $6.8 million.
