The state Office of the Auditor came out with its critique of the public-school air-conditioning program during the dog days of summer, making its findings even more uncomfortable.
That is: The state Department of Education has not made a plan for expanding AC installations to more classrooms, according to the audit. The report acknowledges that the buildings’ aging electrical systems have complicated the mission.
It’s too bad the Legislature is not in session now. What better time to beat the drum for more funding — and better DOE operations — than when hot weather steams up not just the students, but everyone?
