CHICAGO (WLS) -- President Donald Trump pointed to more than 50 shootings in Chicago over the Labor Day weekend as a reason for deploying the National Guard to the city.

Democrat leaders are doubling down, with Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson set to speak out Tuesday afternoon about the potential federal deployment.

Tuesday, military veterans and attorneys rallied at Federal Plaza. They are calling on Governor Pritzker to protect National Guard troops and support military members as there are repeated threats from President Trump that they could be deployed to Chicago to crackdown on crime.
