Indianapolis police are investigating the death of an infant found in a wooded area of Brookside Park on Labor Day.
Police believe the baby had been alive for less than a day, according to a news release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. It's unclear when or how the newborn died.
The infant was located about 3 p.m. Sept. 1, 2025 in the 3500 block of Brookside Parkway South Drive by a passerby who immediately called police.
After finding the infant, officials from the Department of Child Services, Marion County Coroner's Office, detectives from IMPD's child abuse division and the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Service agency arrived to assist in the investigation.
Indiana has "Safe Haven" laws, which allow parents to anonymously
