LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — Emergency responders pulled a male out of Long Lake Monday evening, but say the rush of the public to share details on social media put the operation in jeopardy.

Bystanders at these types of scenes create distractions, cause congestion and risk delaying efforts by sharing unverified details, according to Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department Chiefs Brian Duncan and Michael Wineland.

"While we understand the concern and interest from the community, emergency responses are not the time to post live updates always," Duncan said. "Our crews need clear access and focused coordination."

The condition, identity and/or age of the male pulled from the lake had not yet been released as of early Tuesday.
