The Indiana Secured School Safety Board approved just over $27.1 million to support safety initiatives in nearly 495 schools and districts across the state, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) announced Tuesday.
The Secured School Safety Grant program provides matching grant funding to schools for school resource officers, equipment and technology, active event warning systems, firearm training for teachers and staff that choose to allow guns on school property, threat assessments and to implement student and parent support services programs. Schools match these funds at certain levels — either 25%, 50% or 100%, according to IDHS.
