WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- The streets of Watkins Glen will once again echo with the sights and sounds of racing history as the annual Grand Prix Festival takes place on Friday, September 5.

The event celebrates the origins of post-World War II road racing, which first began in Watkins Glen back in 1948. This year’s featured marque is Porsche, with hundreds of vehicles expected to participate in rallies, displays, and tribute laps.

The festival kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with a tech inspection reenactment at Smalley’s Garage on Franklin Street, showcasing historic race cars. By noon, Franklin Street from Second to Tenth Streets will be closed to traffic to make way for the popular “Two Laps of the Old Course,” where cars of all types tour the original racing route through the village.
