CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - ICE officers blocked off the area surrounding the Department of Homeland Security’s Cedar Rapids office ahead of a protest. Advocates plan to rally outside of the office to support three immigrant families during their check-ins.

The blockade will bar demonstrators from entering the building’s lawn and neighboring alleyways. On many occasions, advocates have joined immigrant families for their check-ins with ICE, some of those check-ins have resulted in detainments.

Because of the blockade, none of the demonstrators will be able to enter the building or form in the front yard.

“It literally puts their work in the shadows,” Reverend Jonathan Heifner, a protest organizer, said.
