As a new school year begins, hundreds of teachers and staff across New Jersey are losing their jobs as districts struggle to balance budgets .

From Camden to Wayne, school boards are cutting positions, consolidating programs and restructuring schools to close multimillion-dollar shortfalls. And in some cases, the reductions mark the steepest staff losses in decades. (See a list of eight districts facing layoffs below.)
