On Monday, Giants coach Brian Daboll declined to name a backup quarterback.
On Tuesday, the team released its initial unofficial depth chart for Sunday’s Week 1 game at Washington.
And first-round rookie Jaxson Dart — who shined this summer — was listed in the No. 2 spot, behind Russell Wilson and ahead of Jameis Winston.
All summer, throughout training camp practices and preseason games, Dart was third on the depth chart, behind Winston and, of course, Wilson. But it was clear from the early days of camp that Dart was unofficially the second-string quarterback. So that summer depth chart meant nothing.
Tuesday’s depth chart simply confirmed the reality that existed throughout all of August.
Bottom line: The Giants should not press Dart into action — especially behind a question
