NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A new Tennessee law requires that investigations of mass shootings include a test for prescription drugs.
HB1349/SB1146 was introduced in February 2025 by Representative Mary Littleton (R-Dickson) and Senator Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City).
It obligates the corresponding county’s medical examiner’s office or the regional forensic center to include in the autopsy of a deceased mass shooter a test for prescription drug use.
Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.
If the shooter is still alive, then those offices are required to consult the accused shooter’s treating mental health professional or primary care physician to determine if drugs were a factor.
The results of the investigation would then be sent to the University of Tenne
