Fines are a result of market conduct examinations following Hurricanes Ian and Idalia, with two more examinations pending.
Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky has ordered penalties totaling $2.075 million against eight insurance companies for misconduct in handling claims from Hurricanes Ian and/or Idalia.
The penalties were issued after a series of market conduct examinations revealed multiple violations, including improper use of adjusters, delayed communication, and failure to pay claims in a timely manner.
The announcement comes as the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season approaches its peak, with Yaworsky warning that his office is prepared to take further action to ensure insurers are treating policyholders fairly.
