A 13-year-old boy died on Labor Day after an accident involving fireworks in west Tulsa, according to police.

Officers responded around 5:30 p.m. Monday to Sandy Park Apartments near 6300 W. 11th Place, where a child was reported in cardiac arrest after an explosion.

Firefighters with the Tulsa Fire Department were performing lifesaving efforts on the boy when officers arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died a short time later, according to police.

Witnesses told officers they saw a group of young people setting off fireworks early in the evening.
