HARTFORD, Conn. — Hartford firefighters battled a vacant building fire early Tuesday, officials said.
The Hartford Fire Department was called to a building on Capen Street on the report of a fire. The fire was in a vacant building behind two occupied residential homes.
Officials said the firefighters faced a challenge with downed, energized powerlines that blocked access to one side of the driveway. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines to protect other buildings and began their suppression of the central fire from a vacant lot on Enfield Street.
Crews continued battling the blaze while waiting for Eversource to secure the live electrical lines. Once the lines were de-energized, crews were able to fully access the side of the building and extinguish any remaining hotspots.
