GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A 69-year-old Newbury man was killed Monday after his Honda Helix motor scooter was struck by an SUV.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said Paul Buttari, Sr. was traveling westbound on State Route 87 just before 2 p.m. Monday.

According to troopers, a Ford Escape driven by a 19-year-old, was southbound on Elm Road and stopped at the stop sign at State Route 87.

The driver then pulled out onto State Route 87 and hit Buttari’s scooter, said troopers.

The 19-year-old was not injured.

Buttari was transported to UH Geauga and then flown to University Hospitals in Cleveland, where he died from his injuries.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor in the crash and the incident remains under investigation.
