At least seven people were shot over Labor Day weekend in Jackson that resulted in three fatalities, according to a series of press releases issued by Jackson Police Department Public Information Officer Tommie Brown.

The Clarion Ledger records show that the three deaths mark 40 reported homicides investigated by Jackson police as of this Tuesday, Sept. 2 publication.

On Saturday, Aug. 30, Precinct 1 officers responded at 11 p.m. to 5627 Dogwood Trail in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located Roosevelt Denson Jr., 48 , deceased. Police said Denson suffered at least one gunshot wound. Zacchaeus Daniel Johnson, 26, had also been shot but later died at approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday at a local hospital, police said.
