PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) - Dozens of officers responded to a street takeover event which results in multiple traffic stops on Monday night, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Police say East Precinct officers were monitoring an event involving car enthusiasts in the 5000 block of SE 82nd Avenue and tried to make a traffic stop when they were surrounded by people who eventually began taking over an intersection.

According to police, there were reports of fireworks being launched at officers.

About four dozen officers from Central and North Precincts responded to the scene to help assist East Precinct officers.

Police say officers were able to speak with the event organizer who decided to shut down the event. Most of the spectators left, with some staying behind.
