Police have charged a 22-year-old man with drinking and driving offences after a two-vehicle collision resulted in minor injuries and a fire in Port Elgin this weekend.

Saugeen Shores police, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched on Sunday to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Goderich Street, where one of the vehicles had caught fire, police officials said in a statement.

A driver subsequently failed a roadside breath alcohol test and was taken to the police station for further testing, police said. Occupants of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries due to the collision.

Police say they charged a 22-year-old from Etobicoke with driving while impaired and careless driving. His driver’s license is now suspended and his vehicle was impounded, police said.
