BATON ROUGE, La. — Gov. Jeff Landry wants to house the "worst of the worst" criminal undocumented immigrants in the country in Louisiana.

Landry has been developing plans to hold hundreds of federal detainees in an unused section of the State Penitentiary at Angola.

Angola is the largest maximum-security facility in the U.S. The 18,000-acre prison farm north of Baton Rouge currently houses more than 4,200 inmates — more than half are serving life sentences.

The governor is expected to make the official announcement at the prison on Wednesday afternoon, joined by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
