OXFORD, Miss. (WMC) - A 19-year-old is facing charges after shots were fired in Oxford hours after the first Ole Miss football game of the season.
Oxford police were patrolling an event at Booth’s Barbeque and Yard on South Lamar Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. Sunday where there was a large crowd of people.
Officers were redirected from postgame traffic assistance following the football game to South Lamar due to the crowd.
While officers were working to clear the area, shots were fired.
No one was injured in the gunfire.
Police say they immediately ran into the area and secured the restaurant.
Antwan Tompkins, 19, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Another man was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon, and the three event organizers were cited for noise violatio
