Independence, Mo. (KCTV) - Investigations into deadly incidents in Independence are under way after a violent Labor Day weekend.

The first incident happened Saturday night, when police chased a suspect on I70. That suspect got out of their car near I70 and Nolan Road and tried to run off when he was hit by a car.

Early Sunday morning Independence Police shot and killed a man while responding to a call.

Police said he was sitting by himself in the back of a car and refused to drop his weapon, that’s when he was shot.

Both of these incidents come as the police department is also searching for an interim Police Chief.

It was on the minds of some festivalgoers at Santa-Cali-Gon Days Festival, which wrapped up Monday evening.
