Before the MCU officially kicked off in 2008 with Iron Man, Marvel Studios had produced a slew of live-action films based on the popular comic book characters they have in their arsenal. Some were more successful than others at the box office, as movies like Spider-Man in 2002 took in more than $800 million, while others such as 2004's The Punisher were barely able to make back their budget.
