An Italian administrative court has reduced a €1.13 billion antitrust fine imposed on Amazon by the country’s competition authority in 2021. The ruling stems from findings that the company abused its dominant position in the e-commerce logistics market.
While the Lazio administrative court upheld the core of the original ruling, it ruled that the Italian watchdog had not sufficiently justified a 50% discretionary surcharge that raised the total amount. The court has ordered the penalty to be recalculated, though it did not disclose the final figure. According to estimates, removing the surcharge would reduce the fine to around €750 million.
