SHANNONDALE—At this year’s Shannondale Chili Cook-off, five judges were responsible for tasting and rating 13 different types of chili. The event, held each year on Labor Day, has become a favorite of the Shannondale community and beyond.

Stepping in to judge this year’s entries were Nick Atwood, a Shannondale resident; Curtis Heath, from Fauquier County Virginia who was recruited by friends; Charles Cornelison, also a Shannondale resident and the only one on the judge’s panel who had previously judged contests; Joshua Hammock, also of Shannondale and this writer. Each of the judges, despite having only one with prior judging experience, set to the task committed to do the best job possible.
