A celebration in Southbury, as the public library opened Tuesday. It was closed for over a year following August 2024’s devastating flooding in the Naugatuck Valley.

The entire basement floor took on water during the flooding and about 40,000 items that belonged to the library and other departments around town were lost.

A ribbon cutting was held outside the front door of the library to welcome back residents. Cheers rang out as head librarian Heather Aronson did the honors.

“It feels amazing, it feels normal, we are all very happy,” she said.

A better flood, a flood of people, worked their way inside, excited to have their library back.

“Just being able to be in one spot again,” Aronson said.
