Reno City Council member Kathleen Taylor announced her campaign Tuesday for mayor in 2026.

With Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve unable to run again because of term limits, many candidates are expected to join the race.

Right now, Taylor joins Kate Marshall as the only other candidate to officially declare they’re running for Reno mayor so far.

Taylor serves as Reno’s vice mayor and represents Ward 1 covering east-central Reno including downtown, the university and the Nevada Cares Campus.

She said her campaign will focus on fiscal discipline. The city of Reno faces a $25 million deficit and laid off eight employees earlier this summer.
