Author J.K. Rowling and tech executive Elon Musk have criticized the arrest of comedian Graham Linehan, who was detained at Heathrow Airport this week over social media posts about the trans community.
Linehan, 57, creator of Father Ted and The IT Crowd, was taken into custody Monday afternoon after arriving from Arizona. The Metropolitan Police said he was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence in relation to messages posted on X in April. Five armed aviation officers carried out the arrest.
Linehan told followers he was treated “like a terrorist” before being questioned about three posts, one of which urged people to “make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him” if a trans-identifying male entered a female-only space. He was later taken to hospital after police exp
