HELENA — Montana high school football is back.

Teams in all five classifications were back on the gridiron for the first time since November last week, with some interesting results. In some instances, there wasn't even a final result, as poor weather conditions caused numerous games across the state to be called no-contests.

In terms of the defending state champions, the first week was a mixed bag. Class AA champion Helena Capital lost its opener to Great Falls CMR, 28-14. Fairview, the defending state champ in 8-Man, lost to Culbertson by the same score.

Malta kept its winning streak alive in Class B, opening its title defense with a hard-fought, 9-8 win over Huntley Project. Billings Central made a statement with a 64-28 win over Dillon in Class A, while the 6-Man state champion
