Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that the U.S. military attacked a drug vessel after it departed from Venezuela in the South Caribbean Sea.
“Today the U.S. military conducted a lethal strike in the southern Caribbean against a drug vessel which had departed from Venezuela and was being operated by a designated narco-terrorist organization,” Rubio posted on social media.
Tuesday’s strike appears to be the first of its kind in the area, with Rubio noting that the targeted boat was operated by a drug-trafficking group identified by the Trump administration as a terrorist organization.
He confirmed the strike directly after President Donald Trump announced it during a press conference in the Oval Office. View Comments
